# Mountain refuge, sled dogs and a torchlit evening: three ways to experience the mountains beyond the pistes

Beyond skiing, the mountains offer plenty of scope for walking, snowshoeing and nights spent away from the bustle of the resorts. Three experiences in particular allow visitors to immerse themselves in the snow-covered landscape: a night in a mountain refuge, a sled dog ride and a torchlit snowshoe evening at a mountain restaurant.

## A night in a mountain refuge

The Refuge du Trait d'Union stands at 1,725 metres. It can be reached on foot or on snowshoes from the village, or by ski from the pistes. The refuge offers a night by candlelight around a wood-burning stove, in surroundings described as warm and authentic.

## A sled dog ride along the River Doron

A musher named Dany runs sled dog rides along the River Doron and through the snow-covered forest. The activity is aimed at children and adults alike, and is presented as an experience reminiscent of an adventure novel.

## A torchlit snowshoe evening in the mountains

La Loy is a mountain restaurant run by two sisters from the village, Emily and Servane. They serve traditional Savoyard cooking there, offered at lunchtime on the terrace. The restaurant also holds "torchlit snowshoe" evenings, which unfold in three stages: drinks around a brazier, dinner by the fire, then a torchlit snowshoe walk back.
